Death Wish Dark Roast Ground Coffee

What is the strongest coffee in the world? Do some simple research and the answer will come up: Death Wish. Admit it, the name itself sends you jitter and will cause you to double take. As the name implies, Death Wish ground coffee is not for the faint-hearted, claiming to be the world’s highest caffeine-content coffee in the world.

Death Wish coffee is a very young player in the coffee market. It was only started in 2012 by founder Mike Brown. Story was, Mike Brown churned out the most caffeinated coffee possible to please coffee lovers who want their coffee strong and powerful to kick start their mornings, or nights. We’re guessing Mike’s target market were initially truck drivers, programmers, journalists, doctors and the like. Today it can be anyone, given the coffee’s popularity after winning a Super Bowl 50 commercial spot.

Death Wish coffee contains a combination of both Robusta and Arabica coffee beans. Robusta beans alone have double caffeine content than Arabica beans. Combine them together, add some top secret expert blending process, and the result is the strongest coffee in the world. How strong? One cup of Death Wish coffee has double the caffeine content of one cup of the average coffee!

No wonder then that the Death Wish coffee bag has a rather large warning label at the back about the really, really, really strong coffee inside. The bag has a black matte packaging and prominently features a skull and crossbones logo at the front. It brings back pirates, bootlegging and high-sea adventures to mind, which we think is the purpose. At the back of the bag, aside from the warning about this being a strong and bold coffee, it also proudly displays the certificates earned by this product for being fairly traded, organically grown and expertly brewed.

On to the coffee itself. This coffee is dark roasted and ground to perfection. The aroma drifts to your nostrils invitingly. When in a cup, the liquid is dark as night. With all that dark color, we expected it to be very bitter. Surprisingly it is not that bitter. Also with strong coffee, we expected that it would have that unpleasantly strong kick that we should just try to man up to. Again, surprisingly, it is pleasant to drink. It has a bold and smooth flavor. We noted the taste of it as being a nice-quality coffee and not because of its high caffeine content.

A few sips of this coffee will bring the zing, but none of the jitters. But the zings and jitters really depend on one’s caffeine tolerance, so brew and imbibe with caution. Energy levels definitely increase with this coffee and sustained for long periods of time. It will keep you awake and in a good mood for quite some time.

All in all, one good cup of coffee.

Folgers Classic Roast Ground Coffee

Folgers coffee has only been around for 150 years selling coffee.  Every one of us probably has imbibed a mountain-grown cup of Folgers coffee or two in our life time.  Precisely because of its history that is as rich as its coffee that we make mention of them here.  Give credit where it is due, acknowledge an icon, or simply give thanks for being “the best part of waking up”, as their ad says.  Not to mention, Folgers is consistent in producing pure-tasting and rich-flavored coffee.

Every one of Folgers coffee comes in a screaming red canister.  The red color implies their dominance in the coffee market.  You can spy a Folgers coffee miles away in any supermarket aisle.  The packaging is made of plastic recyclable material with an airtight lid and valve that seals aroma inside.  There’s an indentation on the can’s surface that you can easily grip.  Each can is surprisingly lightweight.

Folgers classic roast ground coffee is medium-roasted.  When you open the can, the word “fresh” immediately comes to mind as the smell of ground coffee wafts in.  The aroma retains many of the oils in the coffee beans.  The ground coffee is a dark brown color. Once you have it steaming in a cup, the flavor is a complete balance between body and acidity.  It is boldly flavorful with the right amount of sweetness and bitter taste to it.  Smooth, this is how this coffee tastes like.

Which goes without saying that if you want the perfect pick-me-up in the morning, Folgers classic roast ground coffee is still “the best part of waking up” for you.

About Us

We love coffee!

Chris, Del, Matt, Mary and Maisie are a team of coffee lovers, brought together by love for coffee.

Why love coffee? It tastes good, which is an understatement. It's good for the health, which is a fact.  And it makes everyday better!

So why write about coffee? It's a passion, an interest, and we love talking about everything under the sun with a coffee cup in our hands.  So we might as well talk (and write) about coffee while we're at it.

We are not coffee experts.  Our information is derived from existing coffee literature and our own experience with each hot bubbling cup.

We write about the coffee producer, the flavor, the color, the scent, and other details we may observe with each coffee product. We write in ordinary coffee drinker's lingo, not in expert tongue.  We write because we want to help you with your own journey to experiencing coffee as it should be experienced.

Here's to our journey!
